About

This blog is dedicated to my best friend, whose attempt to keep a travel journal was thwarted when her fellow travellers’ discovered she’d begun an entry with the words: “today I ate a baguette.”

Here’s hoping my travel blog isn’t so short-lived.

But seriously about me…

My name is Rachael and I’m a 25-year-old New Zealander, who sacrificed my early 20s to climb the career ladder, only to be out of a job at the tender age of 24, when the politician I was spin-doctoring for retired.

And, after putting off travel for weddings and jobs I took this as a sign – if I don’t do it now while I’m manless, childless, financially uncommitted, fit and healthy – I never will.

So this blog is about my solo travel adventures, from the perspective of someone who still grapples with left and right and can’t read a map.

Writing this puppy is also my free entertainment, particularly on long bus, ferry, train and plane trips.

But above all it keeps me sane, because if I couldn’t find a way to laugh at myself I’d be crying.

  1. Just came across your blog from your guest post on the Professional Hobo. I’m really enjoying it, you’ve already given me several laugh-out-loud moments! I can definitely relate to your travel mishaps, those sort of things always seem to happen to me as well. Hope you’re having a fabulous time at the olympics and I’m looking forward to reading more about your adventures! Cheers! 🙂
